It’s never too early to begin ranking teams that may not exist in their current form come training camp. That said, with the draft and free agency now behind us — for the most part — we have a much better understanding of how each team is shaping up as they prepare for another 82 game season.
What stands out to me is just how many good teams there are going to be. As a result, I think we see the win totals begin to even out across the middle-tier of the NBA. Whereas last season it took 38 wins to get into the playoffs in the East, this season that mark may not even put you into fringe contention. Whereas last season we saw 10 teams win as many as 50 games, this season that number may shrink to as few as six. The middle class of the NBA is growing, and this could be one of the most fun and competitive seasons ever as a result.
