Dwyane Wade Returning To Miami on One Year Deal

They throw some barbs at each other through the media, but somehow, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat always work things out, and this year was no different.

Wade’s new deal, a raise from both his salary last year and what he would have received had he exercised his player option, certainly doesn’t help their cap situation for this year, but it does leave them with more options for pursuing Kevin Durant next summer. Presumably, Pat Riley will want Wade to take yet another pay cut to make room for a star, so this helps make him whole for what has already happened and what is to come.

Retaining Wade, the most important player in Heat history, sends a positive message to future players considering Miami. It also completes the process of bringing back last year’s formidable lineup that was assembled after trading for Goran Dragic, who also reached a new deal with the team. Dragic, Wade and Bosh will be joined by Luol Deng, Hassan Whiteside and rookie Justise Winslow on a team that could easily get a top-4 seed if they stay healthy this time around.
