In a move that was totally expected, Dwyane Wade will opt out of his $16.13 million contract for next season:

Now the question is whether Wade and the Miami Heat can come to an agreement on a new deal. It recently came out that the two sides are far apart on a new contract, and there have been some rumblings that the Heat legend could perhaps leave Miami. The Heat are leery about giving Wade a huge contract given his age, declining health and the team’s roster construction, but he’s given up money in the past and still is an elite player when healthy.
Wade averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds last season while shooting 47 percent from the field. Of course, he hasn’t played 70 games since 2011-12 and will be 34 in January.
Ultimately, I expect the two sides to find a compromise that results in Wade returning to Miami. However, with the egos at play, I’m not ruling out a surprise departure.
