Dwight Howard Not Suspended for Game 5 vs. Warriors

Houston Rockets big man Dwight Howard avoided a suspension after taking a swing at Andrew Bogut in the Rockets’ 128-115 Game 4 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday. Howard was assessed a flagrant one foul and it wasn’t upgraded to a flagrant two, which would have resulted in a one-game suspension:

Thorn explained further why the flagrant wasn’t upgraded:

The foul happened in the third quarter of Game 4. As Howard was trying to run back up the court following a turnover, Bogut grabbed and shoved Howard in the back, leading to the Rockets big man taking the swing:

The Rockets certainly caught a break with this decision, as Howard has been a key contributor throughout the series despite a nagging knee injury. The big man is averaging 13.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in this series, and those averages are at 15.7 and 14.3 over the last three games. He’s shooting 60.5 percent in the series, and Houston has actually outscored Golden State while he has been on the floor.
