DeAndre Jordan Leaving Clippers for Mavericks

The rumblings of DeAndre Jordan‘s interest in the Dallas Mavericks began awhile ago, and now he’s heading to the Mavericks on a four-year max deal:

Jordan is a Texas guy, but leaving Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and a legitimate title contender in the Clippers is quite the decision. Perhaps those rumors about a feud with Paul and wanting to get more of the spotlight were really true, because this choice doesn’t make much sense basketball wise.

The Mavericks should still be very good with Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons and Wesley Matthews, but Nowitzki is almost done and both Parsons and Matthews just had serious surgery. There’s also currently no good point guards in place, although Dallas can still work to acquire one.

The Clippers are now in a really rough spot losing their defensive anchor. There’s little frontcourt depth on that roster, so Los Angeles will be scrambling to find somebody to play center. There may be a way to get Roy Hibbert to the Clippers in some type of three-way deal that includes Monta Ellis, but that may be a long shot. All options will be explored, and it’ll be interesting to see how Doc Rivers recovers from this huge blow that shifts some power in the Western Conference.
