Conflicting Reports On George Karl’s Job Status With Kings

The offseason has barely started and the Kings seem to have already assured themselves the most embarrassing summer.

Amid talk of star big man DeMarcus Cousins and coach George Karl both seeking to be rid of the other, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports Kings owner Vivek Ranadive has at least broached the subject of firing Karl to people within the organization. Though he says a firing is not imminent, Broussard adds that Ranadive has told at least one person that he or she was correct in doubting Karl’s selection as the head coach.

Broussard wasn’t alone:

Because this is the Kings, reports to the contrary also came out:

It’s hard to know what’s true, and it’s even possible that all of them are legitimate and Ranadive is just changing his mind every hour or two as he confronts an inevitable breakup.

This is such a debacle that there is no way to totally recover. If both return, the ship will sink quickly. If Cousins leaves, it could very well take the franchise another half decade or longer to recover. The only solution seems to be to fire Karl…but who would possibly want to coach the Kings at this point?
