Murray State’s Cameron Payne has rocketed up draft boards over the past few months, but the point guard has suffered a minor setback just days before the 2015 NBA Draft. Payne left a recent workout with the Denver Nuggets with a hand injury, and it turns out he broke his right ring finger, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.
The good news is his right hand is his off hand and the injury won’t require surgery. He’ll sit out three weeks as a precautionary measure, but his agent said he could probably play in a “meaningful game” if he really had to.
This injury almost certainly won’t do anything to his draft stock. He’s currently projected to go in the lottery, and he’ll likely be the third point guard off the board after D’Angelo Russell and Emmanuel Mudiay.
This injury could potentially impact Payne’s Summer League plans, but considering it doesn’t appear to be all that serious, it seems likely he’ll be able to participate.
