Bulls Paint Rosey Picture on Media Day

The Chicago Bulls officially started their preseason camp, and while there was nothing earth shattering that happened, there were certainly few items to take note of.

On the whole, it looks like the Bulls are in pretty good place, even in light of the offseason coaching change, the pending lawsuit against Derrick Rose and the carryover injuries to Taj Gibson and Mike Dunleavy (which was perhaps the one real bummer of the day).

On Rose and the lawsuit, he was adamant that he is innocent.

As far as his game goes, new coach Fred Hoiberg is happy with the work he did this summer:

Rose also maintained that he still has confidence in his game:

Joakim Noah is feeling good:

Jimmy Butler is ready to prove he’s not joking about playing minutes at the point guard:

But he wants to be clear he’s not competing with Rose:

Pau Gasol said he played some of the best basketball of his life this summer:

And Gibson is expected to be back by opening night:

That’s a lot of the key parts back in place. If Rose is back to being explosive, Noah can return to his more spritely maneuverings, Gasol continues to dominate the way he did in EuroBasket and Butler has expanded his ball handling enough to run the point, the Bulls could be a potent team next season: even the contender that was expected last year.

The question that most would like the answer to, though, has yet to be answered and won’t be until the preseason is over: Who is starting?

It’s nothing new for the Bulls (or any team) to greet the preseason with such enthusiasm, but Chicago does have the personnel that if everything could click into place, and everyone stays healthy for once, they could be a bona fide challenger to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
