The Milwaukee Bucks were hoping to have their new arena ready by the 2017-18 NBA season, but the Bucks said Tuesday the construction schedule targets a 2018-19 opening, according to the Associated Press.
After a lot of time and effort, the Bucks were finally able to get an arena bill passed this offseason to secure the necessary funds for construction of the new stadium and surrounding development in downtown Milwaukee.
The Bucks were under pressure from the NBA to get a new arena built by 2017. The league threatened relocation otherwise, but they’re okay with this new construction timeline.
The Bucks submitted their preliminary plans for the $500 million downtown complex to the city of Milwaukee earlier this week. A planning commission will review the plans on Nov. 9, and construction is expected to be underway at some point in 2016.
