Brian Shaw just got the ax from the Denver Nuggets after a disastrous season-plus, but Shaw is ready to get right back on that horse. The former Nuggets headmaster would “absolutely” be “very interested” in the Orlando Magic head coaching job if or when there’s a search for a long-term coach, according to Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel.
The Magic fired Jacque Vaughn on Feb. 5 with the team on a 10-game losing streak. James Borrego took over as interim coach and has gone 4-6, and Magic general manager Rob Hennigan has said Borrego will be considered for the job long term.
But if Orlando wants to go in a new direction, Shaw supposedly wants in. The 48-year-old spent three years of his NBA career with the Magic.
Of course, Shaw wanting to coach Orlando doesn’t mean Orlando wants him. While Shaw wasn’t completely to blame for the Nuggets disaster, he didn’t exactly do a good job and never connected with his players. After that, would the Magic want to hire Shaw to coach a team full of young players?
That remains to be seen.
