Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Arron Afflalo missed the last three games of the regular season and Game 1 against the Memphis Grizzlies because of a shoulder injury, but Afflalo could return to the lineup for Wednesday’s Game 2, according to Jabari Young of CSN Northwest.
Young briefly talked to Afflalo as he left the locker room after the Blazers’ ugly 100-86 loss to the Grizzlies on Sunday, and the shooting guard said “Yeah, I’m good” when asked about playing in Game 2.
Portland certainly could use the boost after the wretched Game 1 that wasn’t as “close” as the final score indicated. C.J. McCollum got the start in Afflalo’s place, and the second-year man had just two points on 1-of-8 shooting in 37 minutes. With Damian Lillard shooting only 5-of-21, that means the Blazers’ starting backcourt shot just 6-of-29 from the field. Adding to the shooting woes in the backcourt was Steve Blake missing all four of his shots, including three three-pointers.
Afflalo hasn’t been great by any means this season, averaging 10.6 points on 41.4 percent shooting in 30.1 minutes per game since being traded by the Denver Nuggets. However, the 29-year-old shot 40 percent from three in his 25 games in Portland, and the Blazers need all the three-point shooting they can get with Wesley Matthews out for the season and Dorell Wright nursing an injury of his own.
