Anthony Davis is already a destroyer of worlds, but could you imagine how ridiculous he’d be if he added a three-pointer to his arsenal? Well, that’s exactly what New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry wants his young superstar to do, according to John Reid of The Times Picayune.
Specifically, Gentry wants Davis to work on his corner three game. In a conference call to season ticket holders on Tuesday night, the new Pelicans headmaster said he wants Davis making 150 threes from each side of the court each day:
”That’s got to become a consistent shot for him,” Gentry said. ”I don’t think he’s going to have any problem doing it. If you go back and look at his high school days, he was a very good 3-point shooter. But all of sudden he decided to grow six or eight inches. He still has that range, but I don’t think it has been incorporated in the offense in college or the pros that he’s been in.
”We want him to shoot that shot. So I think you probably see him make more 3s than he’s made his entire career.”
Davis only hit one three-pointer this past season (a game-winning buzzer-beater) and has hit three for his career. The thought of him adding a consistent three-point shot is absolutely terrifying, but considering his talent level, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pull it off.
Watch out, NBA.
