Thanks to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, we could be getting closer to the best 16 teams making the NBA playoffs, regardless of conference.
“Ultimately, we want to see your best teams in the playoffs,” Silver said. “And there is an imbalance and a certain unfairness.”
Under the “new” system, the current Western Conference would see 10 teams make the playoffs, compared to just six in the Eastern Conference. Teams like the New Orleans Pelicans (27-23) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (25-25) are on the outside of the playoffs looking in, while the Charlotte Hornets (22-27) and Miami Heat (21-28) would make the playoffs in the East if the season ended today.
The problem may be the owners, who usually never want change unless it involves making more money. Silver will need the owners’ approval to make such a move.
If one was made though, it would no doubt be huge.
Adam Silver reshaping the playoffs so we can get Bron vs Durant in 1st round instead of Bobcats vs Cavs…man..he'd change history of sports
