In case you missed it, 30 members of the Today’s Fastbreak crew got together to participate in a Franchise Player Draft, based on players we’d want to start a franchise with. Last year, everyone picked one player; this year, a starting five was drafted.

With that, I decided to run a fantasy draft on NBA 2K17 featuring everyone’s starting five plus a randomized bench, then simulate five seasons to see whose team would have the most success.

Some quick notes before digging into the results, starting with the first season, which will come in a later post:

  1. Fatigue is on, but injuries are turned off for this to ensure everyone gets ample opportunity to prove themselves on the court.
  2. In order to minimize the bench (since the main point of this exercise is to follow each team’s starting five), everyone’s rotation is the same. Each team will run an eight-man rotation with each starter (from the original draft, regardless of the bench players selected) slotted for 36 minutes, and the three bench players (a point guard, wing and a big) slotted for 20 minutes.
  3. I edited the contracts of everyone’s starting five so they’ll stay together for the next five seasons. Not everyone drafted a traditional starting five, so I stuck to the PG/wing/big model off the bench as best as I could. For example, Eli Horowitz (Rockets) drafted Zach LaVine (SG), Justin Anderson (SF), Ben Simmons (SF), Marquese Chriss (PF) and Thon Maker. Since he’s technically starting a shooting guard and two small forwards, his three players off the bench include two point guards (Tony Parker and Shelvin Mack) to go along with Tyson Chandler, which still gives him an eight-man rotation featuring all five positions plus a point guard, wing and a big.
  4. 12-minute quarters, Hall of Fame difficulty, simulation game style.

Here are all of the teams and their eight-man rotations (ratings in parentheses).
